Information about Feed My School
Sharon Elementary has been selected
for the
“Feed My School” program!
What is the “Feed My School” program?
This program was started by the Georgia Departments of Agriculture and Education to teach students about healthy eating and where their food comes from.
What does it mean for Sharon Elementary?
Our school will host this event on the week of April 25th.
All school lunches, served out of the cafeteria, will be made of 75-100 percent fresh, GEORGIA grown foods!
Every month we will also have monthly taste tests of other locally grown foods!
What does “GEORGIA grown” mean?
“GEORGIA grown” is what we call foods that are grown on local Georgia farms.
Why are “GEORGIA grown” foods important?
Locally grown foods are harvested when ready. This is when they are the freshest and most nutritious! It’s also important to buy locally grown foods as it gives jobs to farmers in Georgia. These foods are grown right here in Georgia and don’t need to be brought here from far away by trucks, planes, and trains. This reduces pollution in our environment.
